Google ranks pages. AI recommends businesses. The difference decides who gets your next client.

Classic SEO and AI visibility (often called GEO — generative engine optimization) get confused because they share tools. But they answer different questions. Google's question: "which pages best match these keywords?" An assistant's question: "which business should I tell this person to trust?"

That second question changes what wins. Assistants assemble an opinion about your business from everything readable: your site's stated facts, your service pages, your cases, directories, your Google Business Profile, the consistency of it all. They reward specifics — who you serve, where, what you've done, with what results — and they're allergic to vagueness. A homepage that says "innovative solutions for your success" gives an assistant nothing to repeat. "We arranged a $500,000 line of credit for a Montreal electrician in three weeks" gives it a sentence it can practically quote.

The practical shift: write for the recommendation, not the ranking. One page per service, real numbers where you can share them, plain answers to the questions buyers actually ask, and identical facts everywhere your business appears online. None of this is exotic — it's mostly discipline.

And measure the thing itself: ask the assistants your buyers' questions, monthly, and record who they name. Rankings are a proxy. The recommendation is the sale.
