From mortgage broker to visibility obsessive: why David Nataf built Be Preferred
Be Preferred didn't start as an agency idea. It started with David Nataf running Montreal financing businesses and noticing something strange in his own client conversations: people increasingly said "ChatGPT told me to look into this" — and none of the excellent firms he knew, including businesses in his own family, ever came up in those answers.
He tested it on companies he knew intimately. Real firms with decades of track record, hundreds of satisfied clients, millions in closed deals — invisible to the assistants. Meanwhile, thinner competitors with better-structured websites were getting named. The quality of the business and its visibility to AI had almost nothing to do with each other.
That gap became the company. The approach that came out of it is a measurement discipline more than a marketing one — build the buyer's real questions, record who the assistants name, fix what's measurably broken, publish honest answers, then re-measure on schedule and show the movement. Every grade computed from stored evidence; nothing typed by hand; a one-page report card instead of a forty-page audit. And the first measurement is free, because a business deserves to know where it stands before spending anything.
The founding conviction is simple: the businesses that deserve to be recommended should be the ones that are. Making that true, one measured client at a time, is the whole job.
